Welcome to Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church

Greek Language School

We are very excited to announce a new initiative and beginning in our Greek Language Afternoon School Program. Under the leadership of Maria Fifis, we have gathered ten wonderful instructors who share a love and knowledge of the Greek Language and Hellenic Ideals, and have shown a desire to serve our Lord through the stewardship of teaching. These parishioners have graciously accepted the challenge of instilling in the minds and hearts of our youth, the spiritual, moral and cultural values of our Greek Orthodox heritage. It is our prayer that this new program will continue to help our children understand and appreciate the values and traditions underlying Greek Orthodoxy.

We will be making a consorted effort to gear the classes to each individual student, providing them with every opportunity to learn. We intend to accomplish this by limiting the size of the classes and through the use of excellent materials and books. The students will also learn many different traditional Greek Songs and Dances.

Greek School Registration will take place on Sunday, September 19th and Thursday, September 23rd, which is also the first day of Greek School. On September 23rd, we will begin with an Agiasmos Service at 4:30 pm and then we will continue with the registration and placement process.

Please note that our Greek School classes will be held on Thursday afternoons and will begin sharply at 4:30. The children will then enjoy a short fifteen minute break from 5:30 – 5:45, before breaking in groups to learn traditional Greek Songs and Dances. The classes will conclude at 6:15 pm.

The teachers of our Greek Language Afternoon School are: Theodora Maccone, Eleni Vautrin, Calliope Vlandis, Vasilia Kaouris, Kalliope Emmanouil, Fotini Loucopoulos, Theodora Chow, Irene Milas, Elli Iosifidis and Maria Fifis.
